How we collect, check and publish data

Where our figures come from, how often they change, how we check them and how you can reuse them.

Update schedule

  • Daily: exchange rates, the NGX All-Share Index and related market figures are updated early each morning, Tuesday to Saturday, with the previous business day’s closing values. Each page shows the date the figures refer to.
  • On release: inflation (monthly), GDP (quarterly), monetary policy decisions and budget documents are updated when the official release is published.
  • Live markets: where shown, global market prices refresh throughout the day and are clearly labelled live or delayed. They are for information only.

How we check figures

We use official publications first. Where we rely on press reports, for example for daily closing rates, we compare more than one source and record which we used. If sources disagree, we use the official figure or the most widely reported one and note the difference. We never estimate or fill gaps with unofficial numbers without saying so.

Street (parallel) exchange rates

Parallel market rates are not official. They come from press surveys of dealers in Lagos and vary by city and dealer. We show them for context alongside the official rate.

Corrections

If you spot an error, please contact us. We correct mistakes promptly and, where a correction changes the meaning of a figure or brief, we say what changed and when.

Reusing our data

Unless stated otherwise, our datasets, tables and charts are published under the CC BY 4.0 licence. You are free to share and adapt them, including for commercial use, as long as you credit Eco Data Technologies and the original source.

Independence

Our analysis is our own. Funders and partners do not review or influence our findings before publication.
